On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, CRID had the privilege of hosting a delegation from the Parliamentary Caucus for Health Financing in Cameroon. This visit can be seen as a signal for a positive outlook for the year 2024 and beyond.
At 10:30 am, a delegation of seven visitors arrived at CRID. Three of the visitors were members of parliament accompanied by representatives of the Non-Governmental Organization Impact Santé Afrique. CRID staff warmly welcomed them in the CRID amphitheater.
After presentations and introductions, CRID’s Executive Director presented the centre’s mission. He emphasised CRID’s commitment to providing research-based evidence to inform NMCP and other control programs linked to the fight against mosquito-borne diseases. He also highlighted their commitment to training the next generation of researchers, fostering local scientific expertise for a sustainable future.
The Parliamentarian delegation, including Hon. Njume Peter, Hon. Ngoko Marie Louise, and Hon. Ndjip Bienvenu, had the opportunity to tour CRID’s laboratories and insectarium. This firsthand look at the center’s advanced equipment showcased the capabilities that enable CRID to achieve its goals. The parliamentarians’ visit proved to be a unique and valuable experience. It provided them with an ideal platform to address any questions they had, ultimately allowing them to better fulfill their roles. Their astonishment at the ongoing research was evident. The visit also served as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Professor Charles Wondji. Parliamentarians hailed him as an exemplary member of the Cameroonian diaspora, embodying the spirit of those who tirelessly contribute to Cameroon’s development. A key discussion point amongst stakeholders centred on the measures the Cameroonian government can take to support research initiatives and foster collaboration between researchers.

The 3 members of parliament left with smiles on their faces, promising to support CRID at various levels and acknowledging the impressive results achieved and the positive reputation established by CRID. This visit signals a positive outlook for the year 2024 and beyond.
