Second Call for operational research projects on vector control in Cameroon
- a) Introductio: The Partnership for Increasing the Impact of Vector Control (PIIVeC) project based at CRID, aims at supporting Operational Research Projects that may lead to rapid, visible and positive impact on control of vector borne diseases in Cameroon. In line with this objective, the Cameroon PIIVeC coordination team is launching the 2nd call for application of operational research projects. More details about the submission process are presented as follows:
- b) Research topics
Malaria : Investigating the efficacy of PBO-nets and new generation nets in the context of pyrethroid resistance
Arbovirus : Assessing the circulation of tick borne diseases in Cameroon
Schistosomiasis : Assessing the cartography and transmission role of schistosome vectors in one of the three most infected region of Cameroon
Filariasis : Conducting a pilot study to reduce Similium densities in highly infected sites
Leishmaniasis : Identifiying Leshmania species responsible for clinical forms of leishmaniasis in North Cameroon
Trypanosomiasis : Assessing risk of resurgence of Human Africa Trypanosomiasis in dormant foci through vector surveillance
- c) Eligibility of applicants
Applicants should:
- hold a doctorate thesis or equivalent, or being an advanced PhD student with at least 1 publication on the topic
- being no more than 40 years old
- have published at least one publication in the domain of submission
Female candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.
- d) Selection of application
Based on criteria of eligibility and the pertinence of the research topic, 3 projects on each topic will be shortlisted by the PIIVeC country coordination team and sent to internal and external reviewers. After the review process, selection of projects to be funded will be done by the Technical Vector Control Advisory Group consultative committee (TVCAG-CC).
- e) Duration, mode of financing, and project administration
Each grant budget should be between £10.000- £12.000 Pounds Sterling (approximately 7 600 000 -9 120 000 Fcfa). The expected project period ranges from 6 to 12 months. All funding will be hosted at CRID, which will be the institution responsible of administering the projects. Funding will be available to researchers on their demand, and researchers will bring back justifications for each fund received.

- Opening date of the call: 15 October 2020
- Closing date: 15 November 2020
- Review due date: 30 November 2020
- Disclosure of results : 10 December 2020
- Signature of research contracts: between 10 and 20 December 2020
- Starting date: 1st January 2020
