On May 1st 2025, CRID joined the global community in celebrating the 139th edition of Labour Day, recognizing the invaluable contributions of workers worldwide. The theme in Cameroon was “Social Dialogue and Decent Work for a Peaceful Cameroon.” For the second time, CRID took part in the march pass at the Mfou parade, among other private sector companies. During the festivities, members of the CRID football team were awarded the Champion Trophy and medals for their victory in the Mefou and Afamba 2025 labour day inter-organizations football tournament. They received their trophy from the hands of Thierry Kin-Nou Nana, Divisional Officer.
After the march past, CRIDians headed indoors for celebrations. The ceremony began with a speech from the Executive Director, Prof Charles Wondji. In his address, he congratulated the units that had distinguished themselves through their work over the course of the year. Among these: Logistics and Estate; staff responsible for managing laboratory stocks, Project managers and Students. As he acknowledged the entire personnel’s efforts, he promised to strive even harder to improve their working conditions, for greater scientific achievements. Among the prospects for 2025, the achievement of gold status of finance, as well as International Organization for Standardization (ISO) accreditation and good lab practice certification.
This moment was followed by the speech of employee delegates, Bertrand Mbakam and Rodrigue Tseyep. They praised the notable achievements realised over the year, among which the establishment of health insurance for the entire personnel. In addition, they encouraged staff to regularly express their needs and difficulties, which will help to transform the workplace into a more pleasant, collaborative and mutually respectful environment.

The phase that followed aimed at creating a healthy sense of competition among the institution’s staff. Prizes were awarded to the best two employees in each category. The Best Support Staff Award for 2025 went to Adamou Ousmaila, Security Guard, and Bokali Jean Aubierge, surface technician. Sonia Nzembon and Woume Fistel received the Best Laboratory Technician award for 2025. Bruno Essame, Project manager, and Kontchou Esaie, Cashier, were named Best Administration and Finance staff 2025. while Nelly Tatchou and Gadji Mahamat were recognized as the outstanding Ph.D students of 2025. Dr Armel Tedjou and Dr Kouamo Mersimine earned the distinction of Best Post-doctoral researchers, As for Dr Basile Kamgang, HDR, Senior Research Scientist and Head of Medical Entomology Department, and Dr Tchouakui Magellan, Research scientist, they were awarded the prizes for Best Research Scientists.
The day ended on a pleasant note, as the entire team shared a meal and drinks. They had fun and rejoiced by dancing. Camaraderie and recognition marked this day, strengthening bonds between various employees.
