This workshop aimed to strengthen team members’ ability to collaborate effectively, provide constructive feedback, and navigate challenging conversations in the workplace.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, CRID staff participated in a training session on interpersonal communication, held in the CRID amphitheatre. The session was led by Promise Akanteh, Director of Communication/ICT University, and Ngobesing Linda, Communications Strategist. From the start, they defined Interpersonal communication as the exchange of information, feelings and ideas between two or more people. This form of communication does not only boost productivity and efficiency, but also reduces conflict and misunderstanding.
Participants looked at Active listening and Empathy as keys to effective communication. Knowing that Active listening is the process of fully concentrating on and comprehending the message being communicated, they could further understand how it enhances problem-solving and conflict resolution. Practicing active listening helps to show empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. Colleagues were invited to practice Active listening and empathy in their daily interactions, in order to build stronger relationships and improve communication.

Role play on the importance of giving clear instructions
Promise Akanteh conducted the module on the art of giving and receiving effective feedback. “Normalize giving and receiving feedback on a regular basis, because it is essential for growth and improvement”, she said. Ngobesing Linda gave the final course, entitled Conflict Resolution and Difficult Conversation. After looking at the causes of conflict, including unclear roles and perceived unfairness, different conflict resolution styles were explored. She emphasized on the fact that each of them had its specific place and must be used at the right time
Upon completing this course, the second of its kind, CRID personnel acquired practical strategies and tools that will undoubtedly refine their communication style and build stronger working relationships.
