The training was from May 6 to 17 at Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) located at Yaoundé Nkoulou carrière to aimed to provide valuable theoretical knowledge and practical training on population genetic studies of tsetse flies. The stakeholders came from Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire and Tchad totaling 10 trainees, have come together to enhance their expertise in this critical field. The program encompassed both theoretical lectures and hands-on practical sessions by a team of CRID researchers composed by Dr Tito Trésor MELACHIO, Dr Francois Sougal NGAMBIA FREITAS and Mr Bertrand MBAKAM, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience for the trainees.
Prof. Charles WONDJI, who’s in charge of the training, kicked things off by introducing the course. The scientific sessions started with an introduction by Prof. Njiokou Flobert, who’s a big name in the field. He gave an engaging overview of population genetic studies. With his expertise and profound knowledge, Prof. Flobert delved into the significance of the subject, highlighting the importance of markers developed over time, and the outcomes they yield.
The training included lots of theoretical and practical sessions, which gave the participants the skills and understanding they needed to do genetic population studies of tsetse flies. The aim of the training course was to help with tsetse intervention programmes across the region. The trainees from different backgrounds shared ideas and experiences, which helped everyone learn and made the atmosphere more collaborative, encouraging growth and innovation.CRID was honored to host this training course and extended gratitude to all participants, trainers, and partners for their valuable contributions. With the support of Prof. Adily M.M. Abdalla, through collaborative efforts, they strived towards a future where tsetse-borne diseases were effectively controlled, ensuring the well-being and prosperity of communities across the region. The training ended successfully and all the trainees received participation certificates.
